There are so many things you can do together to help your community and those living around you.
Helping others improves your social skills and well-being, connects you to others and simply makes you feel happier and better about yourself. We have listed a few simple ideas on how to make a difference in your community.
1) Help someone in need
This one is very simple - be kind and helpful to others. If you see someone who might need help, react. Give directions to a person who looks lost on the street or even walk them to their destination if you have time. You can also help your neighbours by baby-sitting their children, helping them with food shopping or simply having a chat.
2) Support local businesses
There are many ways to support your local economy and invest in your community. Spend money locally as often as you can - buy food from local vendors or farmer’s markets, shop at local businesses, recommend them to your friends and family or simply leave them a positive review on social media.
Recycling is another way to help your community. Landfills get full very quickly as we produce too much trash, so do your part by recycling and reducing waste as much as possible. This will benefit your community and help save the planet.
Work in a charity shop, mentor a young person or volunteer in a food bank – it can be anything. There are lots of organisations looking for volunteers so don’t hesitate to get in touch with them. Ask your children what they would like to do and find a suitable volunteering opportunity in your area.
5) Donate money or things
Give back to your community by donating money or unwanted possessions to local charities or charity shops. Giving away unwanted items rather than throwing them away can help someone in need.
