WWT’s Big Splash - National Puddle Jumping Championships

Coming to a WWT Wetland Centre near you in February Half Term

Children of all ages are being encouraged to get out into the fresh air and have fun jumping in puddles this February half term with WWT’s Big Splash! The Big Splash is the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust’s (WWT) national puddle jumping championship, taking place across the UK at all nine WWT wetland centres. At each centre, kids will be able to compete against each other to see who can produce the biggest splash from their puddle jump. They will also be judged on their enthusiasm and jumping style. Muddy Puddles are proud to be partnering with the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust to give prizes to the best puddle jumpers!

Daily winners will be announced at centres throughout half term and each lucky ‘super-splasher’ will receive a fantastic (Muddy Puddles!) prize, presented at a special award ceremony. At the end of half term, the regional winner from each centre and the overall UK national winner will be crowned and receive further splash-tastic prizes. Every contestant will receive a sticker to acknowledge their puddle jumping skills. As well as the main puddle jumping competition arenas, there will be practice zones set up around the wetland centres’ grounds to help entrants perfect their splashing techniques. In addition to creating massive splashes, families can also:

  • get close to amazing wildlife
  • take part in crafts and other great activities
  • have fun at indoor and outdoor adventure play areas
  • watch nature’s winter spectacles from cosy hides
  • eat delicious home cooked food in our cafes and browse our fantastic gift shops at WWT wetland centres this February half term.

Miranda Krestovnikoff, well known TV wildlife presenter and regular contributor to BBC’s The One Show, is a keen fan of WWT’s Big Splash, saying: “This will be brilliant fun. I’d love to have a go and I know my kids would too. There’s nothing like splashing about in puddles and making it a competition adds an exciting new dimension to this well loved British tradition. It is also a fantastic way to get children outdoors and engaged with our most important natural resource – water.” Hannah Clifford from WWT said: “We know that children love nothing more than to splash about in puddles, so we thought we’d give them the chance to channel their inner splasher through our nationwide puddle jumping competition at our Wetland Centres, whilst also encouraging outdoor fun.”
