Halloween brownies decorated with cookie tombstones, candy pumpkins, and sprinkles on slate

Halloween Graveyard Brownies Recipe

Halloween is creeping ever closer, which means it’s time to dust off the pumpkin decorations, dig out the costumes and start planning some wonderfully spooky half term fun!

If you’re looking for an easy activity to keep little monsters entertained, our friends at Craft & Crumb have conjured up just the thing: deliciously chocolatey spooky graveyard brownies. They’re frightfully good fun to make and even more delicious to eat!

This simple recipe starts with a batch of rich, fudgy chocolate brownies — always a winner in our book! Once they’ve cooled, the real Halloween magic begins. Spread over a layer of chocolate icing before transforming your brownies into a creepy little graveyard. Crushed Oreo biscuits make the perfect chocolatey soil, while colourful sprinkles and sweets can be used to add all sorts of spooky decorations. Let the children take charge of the decorating and see what they come up with. They could create tiny biscuit gravestones, add gummy sweets as creepy-crawly visitors or sprinkle on some edible decorations for an extra dash of Halloween magic. Don’t worry about making them perfect — wonky gravestones and wonderfully messy decorations are all part of the fun!

The perfect Halloween party treat

These spooky brownies are brilliant for a Halloween afternoon at home, a half term baking session with the children or a frightfully fun party with friends. Why not put on some Halloween music, get everyone into their spookiest aprons and see who can create the creepiest brownie? Just make sure there are plenty of little helpers around when it’s time for the taste test! So grab your mixing bowl, round up your mini bakers and get ready to create a graveyard that’s more delicious than deadly. After all, Halloween is always better with chocolate!

Ingredients:

  • Craft & Crumb Brownie Dipper Kit or your favourite chocolate brownie recipe
  • 75g icing sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 40g softened butter
  • Jelly snakes (plenty of varieties are available from major supermarkets and some extra spooktacular ones are available at this time of year)
  • Halloween themed sprinkles (we especially love these ones from Sprinkles & Toppers)
  • Oreo biscuits (to make gravestone and to crumble on top)
  • White icing writer pen (to write RIP on the headstone)

Method:

STEP 1

  • Bake your yummy chocolate brownies using Craft & Crumb's Brownie Dipper Kit, or by following your favourite brownie recipe - we love this one from The Happy Foodie.
  • Allow to cool completely, remove from tin and slice into rectangles.

STEP 2

  • Mix the chocolate icing together using 75g icing sugar, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, and 40g softened butter, and spread over the top of the brownies.
  • Separate some Oreos, then cut into a gravestone shape with a knife, and write 'RIP' with a white icing tube. Insert into the brownie.
  • Crush some Oreos and sprinkle the crumbs over the icing to look like dirt.
  • Add jelly snakes, sprinkles and sweets to decorate.
