6 Takeaways From Our Instagram Live

Last week, our Chief Mudder, Natasha, and Buying Director, Suky, jumped onto Instagram Live for a good old-fashioned chat about one of our favourite things: puddle suits! 🌧️

With so many different styles, fabrics and features to choose from, picking the right puddle suit for your little explorer can sometimes feel a bit like navigating a particularly muddy puddle. So, Natasha and Suky talked us through some of their favourite splash suits, sharing what makes each one special and the adventures they’re best suited to.

They shared plenty of handy tips and advice to help you find the perfect match for your family – because the right puddle suit means less worrying about the weather and more time getting outside and having fun!

Missed the Live? Don’t worry! We’ve rounded up some of the key takeaways below, so you can find out which puddle suit is right for your little adventurer.

1) Stirrups over wellies

When it comes to staying dry on muddy adventures, it’s all about the little details! One simple trick that can make a big difference is making sure your puddle suit trousers and stirrups go over the top of your child’s wellies, rather than tucked inside them. Why? Because little explorers have a brilliant talent for finding the deepest puddles! With the trousers and stirrups sitting neatly over the wellies, they help stop rain, splashes and soggy mud from sneaking down into the boots. No one wants to discover halfway through a muddy adventure that their socks are soaking wet!

Simply pull the trouser legs down over the wellies and secure the stirrups underneath the sole of the boot. This helps keep everything in place while your child runs, jumps, splashes and scrambles their way through the day.

2) Ideal for layering and all-year-round wear

Come rain or shine, we believe there’s no such thing as the wrong weather – just the wrong kit! That’s why our EcoSplash puddlesuits are designed to be versatile enough for outdoor adventures throughout the year. Available in a range of fun, bold and bright prints, they’re guaranteed to add a splash of colour to even the greyest day. But they’re not just cheerful to look at – they’re wonderfully practical too, helping little explorers stay protected from wet weather while they get busy playing outside. The beauty of a breathable puddle suit is that it can easily be layered over your child’s clothes, making it simple to adapt their outfit as the seasons change. On warmer Spring and Summer days, wear it over lightweight clothing for protection from unexpected showers and damp grass. When the temperature drops in Autumn and Winter, simply add cosy layers underneath to keep little bodies snug while they explore.

This makes the EcoSplash a brilliant piece of kit for families who love getting outside whatever the season brings.

3) Perfect for forest school and all day play

For little explorers who are happiest when they’re outside from morning until afternoon, you need outdoor kit that can keep up with them. Our Puddleflex Insulated All-In-One is up to the job - one of our original heritage pieces, the Puddleflex has been tweaked, tested and refined over the years to make sure it delivers the protection children need when they’re out and about in all sorts of weather. The insulated design helps keep little adventurers warm when temperatures drop, while the waterproof outer helps keep the wet weather firmly on the outside. That means children can spend longer exploring without getting cold, soggy or uncomfortable.

It’s particularly well suited to Forest School, where getting stuck into nature is all part of the fun. It’s no surprise that it has also become a favourite with professional nannies and outdoor-loving families who need dependable kit for busy days outside. When you’re caring for little ones who want to explore every puddle, woodland path and patch of mud they can find, having an all-in-one that you can rely on makes life a whole lot easier.

4) Great for skiing and camping

For families who love to make the most of the great outdoors, versatility is always a bonus. Our 3-in-1 Scampsuits are designed to do just that, combining cosy warmth, dependable waterproofing and plenty of flexibility in one clever all-in-one. So, what makes them 3-in-1? The clever design combines a snuggly inner fleece with a durable, waterproof herringbone outer. The fleece can be zipped in for extra warmth on chilly days, or zipped out and worn separately when you need something a little lighter. The waterproof outer can also be worn on its own, giving you three different combinations from one brilliantly versatile suit.

Heading off on a skiing holiday? Layer up the fleece for extra warmth before heading out into the snow. Planning a camping trip? The waterproof outer is perfect for keeping damp grass, muddy ground and unexpected showers at bay, while the fleece makes a cosy extra layer when temperatures drop. The 3-in-1 design does mean the Scampsuit comes with a slightly higher price tag, but you’re getting three hardworking layers in one – making it a fantastic investment for families who spend lots of time outdoors.

5) Machine washable

Let’s face it, when little ones are involved, mud happens! From enormous puddles and soggy grass to woodland adventures and good old-fashioned getting stuck in, outdoor play can leave even the best puddle suit looking like it’s had quite the day. The good news? All our puddle suits are machine washable, so there’s no need to worry about getting them sparkling clean after every muddy adventure. Simply pop your suit in the washing machine according to the care instructions and it’ll be ready to head back outside again.

There is one important thing to remember, though: leave the fabric softener on the shelf! While it might make your clothes feel wonderfully soft, fabric softener can reduce the effectiveness of the puddle suit’s waterproof finish. And we definitely don’t want anything getting in the way of those all-important puddle-jumping adventures.

6) Planet friendly

We love getting children outside to explore the wonderful world around them, so it’s only natural that we want to do our bit to help look after it too. We’re constantly looking for ways to make our products and our business as planet-friendly as possible, from the materials we use to the way we think about the future of our products. We’re particularly proud that our entire AW21 waterproof collection is made using recycled fabrics. And we don’t mean just the outer layer – the recycled materials are used throughout the garments, including the lining and padding too. It’s a small but important step towards making our waterproofs a more thoughtful choice for outdoor-loving families.

But we don’t want to stop there. Our ambition is to continue finding clever ways to reduce our impact and, by 2025, use recycled materials across our accessories and footwear too. We know there’s always more to do, but every step in the right direction counts.
