Coronation Activity Pack

Celebrate the King’s Coronation with a Royal Woodland Adventure!

With the King’s Coronation taking place this May, there's never been a better excuse to gather your family and friends, head outdoors and enjoy a very special celebration together. Many of the nation's forests are steeped in fascinating royal history, making Forestry England woods and forests the perfect places to mark this memorable occasion. But you don't need to live near a grand castle or royal palace to get involved. Your local woodland, park or green space can become your very own kingdom for the day!

And to help you celebrate in true royal style, Forestry England has created a free coronation-themed activity pack, packed with fun ideas for children and families.

Forestry England Coronation Activity Pack

Plan a royal day out

Why stay indoors when there's a whole kingdom waiting to be explored? Download the activity pack before your adventure and get everything ready for a day of outdoor fun. Pack your picnic basket, gather your royal entourage and head off to your favourite woodland or green space. The activity pack can be used in any wood, forest or local green space, so there's no need to travel far. Your local park could become a royal palace, a woodland clearing could be transformed into a coronation banquet and a muddy woodland path might become the route to a secret royal castle! All you need is a little imagination.

Get crafty like kings and queens

No royal celebration would be complete without some magnificent decorations. The activity pack includes lots of creative ideas to keep little hands busy, including making your very own royal masks, bunting and sceptres. Why not get crafty at home before you head out? Children could make colourful crowns and masks, decorate bunting with royal colours and create a splendid sceptre fit for a king or queen. Pack everything up and take your creations with you to decorate your woodland picnic spot. You could even have a family competition - who can make the most magnificent crown? Who can create the fanciest royal sceptre? Or perhaps the challenge is to make a crown using only things you can find at home! Remember, there are no rules when it comes to royal creativity. The more colourful, sparkly and spectacular, the better.

Put your royal knowledge to the test

Once everyone is suitably dressed for the occasion, it's time to see who knows their royal history. The activity pack includes a royal quiz, making it a fun way for children and grown-ups to learn a little more about this exciting occasion. Split into teams, work together and see who can score the most points. You could even create your own royal quiz for the rest of the family. Ask questions about kings and queens, castles, crowns and famous British landmarks. And if nobody knows the answer? That's the perfect excuse to find out together!

Pack a feast fit for royalty

All that crafting, exploring and royal quiz-solving is bound to make everyone hungry. Luckily, the activity pack includes picnic ideas to help you plan a feast fit for a king. Pack up your favourite sandwiches, sausage rolls, homemade cakes, fruit and plenty of drinks. Add a few special treats to make your picnic feel extra celebratory. Then find a lovely spot beneath the trees, spread out a blanket and let the feast begin. You could decorate your picnic with your homemade bunting and crowns, or give everyone a royal title for the day.

Join the Coronation Big Lunch

The activity pack would be perfect for taking part in the Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday 7th May. Invite your friends, neighbours and extended family and turn your local green space into a wonderful outdoor celebration. There's something rather special about bringing people together for a shared meal, especially when you've all had a hand in creating the decorations and activities. Children can run, play and explore while grown-ups catch up over a picnic. Make bunting together, play games, share food and enjoy the simple pleasure of spending time outdoors as a community. You could even organise a little royal parade, with everyone showing off their homemade crowns, masks and sceptres!

Get ready for the big day!

So, what are you waiting for? Download the Coronation activity pack ahead of time and start planning your royal extravaganza. Gather your crowns, make your bunting, create your sceptres, prepare your picnic, invite your royal entourage, then head outdoors for a day of adventure. Whether you're celebrating in a Forestry England woodland, your local park, school grounds or your own garden, there's no better place to make memories than outside.

Long live outdoor adventures!
