DIY Christmas Card Ideas for Children

December is here and Christmas is coming, so now is the perfect time to start getting little ones excited. A brilliant way to do this is by getting them to make Christmas cards for all your friends and family.

We’ve put together a handy guide with our top 5 easy and fun Christmas card ideas for children to make at home.

1) Paper Strips Christmas Tree

This paper strips Christmas tree craft is perfect for toddlers, and would make a lovely, colourful card to send to their favourite people. You’ll just need some strips of green paper at different lengths for the branches, a small piece of brown paper for the trunk, a gold star sticker for the star on the top of the tree, and q-tips and paint for the baubles. It’s a great opportunity to let little ones practice their scissor skills, and they will love using the q-tips to get creative. The full step-by-step guide is available at Made to be a Momma.

2) Footprint Gingerbread Man

This Christmas card craft is a really fun activity for children of all ages. Simply paint your child's foot brown and press their foot onto a piece of white card, then draw around a lolly stick to create the shapes for the arms and fill these in, then use the end of a straw to paint on the eyes, cheeks and buttons, and add a mouth and wavy lines to finish. Just take some blue card, add a piece of white card to look like snow, then a small piece of brown card for the trunk. Then take some strips of green card, create loops and stick down, and finally add some pom poms and snowflakes to decorate. See Made to be a Momma for the step by step guide.

Simply dip the paper roll into some white paint and create two circles on your brown card, then paint on some snow and snowflakes, draw on your snowman's face, and stick on some buttons and a festive hat. A really simple and effective Christmas craft that will look great on any windowsill or mantlepiece!

5) Handprint Snowmen

This super cute handprint Christmas card would make a lovely keepsake to remember the time when their hands were little. All you need is some brown card, white paint, and felt tips! Just paint their hand white and make a handprint on the brown card, wait for it to dry, then get your felt tips out and add some hats, carrot noses, coal buttons, scarves and stick arms.
