Beat the January Chill With Our Thermals

January has arrived, and if there’s one thing we can be certain of, it’s that it’s going to be chilly! In the UK, January is traditionally the coldest month of the year, with average temperatures hovering around just 5°C. Brrrrrrrr! Time to dig out the woolly hats, wrap up in scarves and get those layers on.

But just because winter has turned up in full force doesn’t mean our adventures have to stop. In fact, we think chilly weather is all the more reason to get outside! There are frosty morning walks to enjoy, muddy woodland trails to discover, snowy slopes to slide down and plenty of puddles waiting to be splashed through.

The secret to keeping little explorers happy and warm? Layers, layers and more layers!

Layer up for winter adventures

When the temperature drops, having the right layers can make all the difference. A good base layer sits close to the skin, helping to keep little bodies warm while also moving moisture away from the skin. That’s where our Drift Base Layers come in. Whether your little adventurer is heading off on a half-term ski trip, exploring the woods at forest school or simply braving a chilly walk into town, they’re a brilliant winter wardrobe staple.

Made for little explorers

Our best-selling Base Layers are made from soft moisture-wicking fabric and are designed to help keep little bodies cosy when they’re out exploring in cold conditions. The fabric is designed to help regulate body temperature and move unwanted moisture away from the skin, so little ones can stay comfortable while they run, climb, hike and generally get stuck into whatever adventure comes their way.

And we know that the smallest details can make the biggest difference. That’s why our Base Layers have built-in thumb holes, helping to keep sleeves comfortably in place when it’s time to pull on a pair of gloves. No more sleeves creeping up the arms just when you need them most!

From the slopes to the forest

A good base layer isn’t just for snowy holidays. It’s the perfect starting point for all sorts of winter adventures. Heading to the mountains? Pop one underneath a jumper and waterproof jacket for an extra layer of warmth on the slopes. Off on a woodland walk? It’s a cosy first layer underneath everyday outdoor kit. Got forest school on the calendar? A base layer can help little explorers stay comfortable while they’re busy climbing trees, building dens and investigating muddy puddles. Even a quick trip into the chilly city centre can benefit from a little extra layering! The important thing is to think about layers rather than one big, bulky item. That way, you can add or remove clothing as temperatures change and your child gets warmer while they’re running around.

What our customers think

We love hearing how our Base Layers become everyday favourites for little explorers. One happy customer said:

“This top is quite thin and so it is perfect for layering in the winter or as a long sleeved top in Summer.”

They also loved the silky feel of the fabric, the handy thumb holes and the colour — always a bonus when you find something practical that children actually want to wear! Our Base Layers are available for explorers from 2 to 12 years, making them an easy addition to your child’s outdoor wardrobe as they grow.

Don't let the cold stop the fun!

Winter might bring shorter days and chilly temperatures, but there’s still a whole world outside waiting to be explored. From frosty fields to muddy forests, snowy hills to windswept beaches, some of the best adventures happen when the weather is doing its worst. So wrap up warm, pull on those boots and get outside!

Beat the January chill and keep your little explorers layering up, warm and ready for adventure!
