It may be cold outside and it is so tempting to stay indoors with a lovely cup of hot chocolate but there’s nothing like a family day out spent in the outdoors, breathing in fresh air and enjoying the benefits of being in nature so brave the cold, wrap up warm and get your children out this February half-term. There are so many family activities UK wide that you can enjoy! Here’s our list of the top 10 things to do this half-term.
1. Visit a farm
Take a trip to a nearby farm for a fun day out with the children. There’s a whole host of activities available at various farms across the UK throughout the half-term to take part in. Your little ones can become young farmers for the day and learn about all the work it takes to keep the yard running and all the animals at the farm happy. Children can get up close and personal with farmyard regulars, can collect eggs, help feed the pigs, watch sheep racing and cows being milked. 2. Join a National Trust event
The National Trust has organised plenty of family-friendly outdoor events for the February half-term at their sites across the UK. Wherever you are, you’ll find an event near you where you can enjoy the fresh air, go wild in the woods or get muddy jumping in puddles (make sure you take wellies for the whole family!). 3. Go on a family getaway
Plan a family getaway and spend memorable moments together. Going on a family trip will bring you closer together and strengthen the family bond. Plus, it is such a great way to relax, make lovely memories and learn new things.
4. Go bird watching
Getting young children interested in bird watching is a great way of introducing them to wildlife and teaching them about the environment and the importance of nature. It is such a fun and inexpensive activity that can be enjoyed anywhere. 5. Have fun in the snow
If you’re one of the families who is enjoying some snowy weather in the UK this half term, be sure to head outdoors and have some winter fun with your children. There are so may activities you can choose from, including sledging, winter walks, snowball fights and more. Make sure you wrap up super warm head-to-toe in waterproofs (children and grown ups alike) so no soggy bottoms or freezing children can ruin the family day out!
6. Visit a museum
Visiting a museum can also be a fun outdoor adventure. Pick a museum with a great outdoor space and combine learning new things with a family walk.
7. Try forest bathing
If you’re looking for a relaxing family activity, try forest bathing this half term. Head to the nearest forest with your family and just be in nature, look around, relax and mindfully enjoy the moment.
8. Visit an indoor ski centre
You don't have to go to the Alps to enjoy skiing. Throw your waterproofs and ski kit on and head to the nearest indoor ski centre with your little skiers.
9. A family welly walk
Wrap up warm and head outdoors as often as you can this half term. Be spontaneous - take a route you haven’t done before or let the children lead the way. Remember to bring some change for a hot chocolate for the perfect way to warm up at the end of your family walk.
10. Go on a scavenger hunt
If you need a bit of competition, get outdoors and head off in search of some items. Come up with a theme, or get the children to create their own checklist of things to find based on your local area.
