Build Your Very Own Brilliant Birdfeeder
Toby and Roo has shared how you and your young explorers can create your very own bird feeder for the garden. This is a fantastic crafty activity for children to learn. Read on to find out! I’m really into the idea of getting the boys involved in nature, you can see that we’ve made bug hotels and frequently go out to feed the animals at places like Center Parcs, so when I saw this idea on Pinterest I was smitten. Bird feeders are actually surprising cheap and easy to make and they make lovely little gifts - we made one for my in-laws who have a beautiful garden set in a rural village and the boys love to spot birds there. We also made one for the boy’s godparents who has just bought a new house – we thought it would be a nice touch! Here is how to make one:
- 1 – 1 1/2 cup bird seed (any garden centre and even some supermarkets will sell this!)
- 1/2 cup lard
- Twine, rope or wire for the hanger – don’t use bright ribbon, as tempting as it is, the birds just won’t come to the feeder if you do!
- A mold, silicone or cookie cutter, either will do.
