5 Things To Do for Earth Hour
Held annually on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour is a lights-out event which attracts supporters in more than 190 countries and territories, all taking action to shape the future and make an impact for our people and the planet.
This year's event takes place on the 23rd March and you can take part by switching off any non-essential lights between 8:30 - 9:30pm.

Earth Hour was started as a lights-off event in Sydney in 2007. It’s now the world’s largest movement for the environment in which millions of people across the globe get involved each year. The idea is to switch off in solidarity with global efforts to secure and save our planet. Everyone is invited to participate in the event. Go “lights out” for as little as an hour to show your solidarity.
There are lots of fun activities to do in the dark! If your growing explorers are still up and about at this time, we've got 5 fun things you could do with them to mark the event on March 23rd.

1) Have a candlelit dinner
A candlelit dinner is much more fun than a regular family meal. Prepare something delicious with your children and enjoy eating with the lights off (remember to have some candles handy) and make amazing memories together. Alternatively, wrap the kids up in warm layers and head outside for a picnic or mug of hot chocolate under the stars.
2) Story time in the dark
Build a den in the living room and read a story to your children in the dark with candles or a torch - we are sure they will love it!
3) Play a board game or make crafts
Spend the evening playing fun board games with your family by candlelight or get creative and make some crafts with the kids. Use whatever materials you find at home to keep it simple - you can even take on a recycled art project together.
4) Play hide-and-seek in the dark
Playing hide-and-seek with no lights on is a real challenge but it’s also fun! Stay at home or play in the garden and don’t forget to give your little explorers a torch to make sure they stay safe in the dark.
