How do we support Farms for City Children?

At Muddy Puddles, we believe that children should never have to stay indoors because of a bit of rain. In fact, we think rainy days, muddy fields and chilly mornings are all part of the fun of growing up outdoors.

That’s why we’re so proud to support Farms for City Children, providing full sets of hard-wearing, waterproof clothing to the three farms where children come to stay, learn and work.

Farms for City Children gives children the chance to step away from everyday life and experience something completely different. Each week, groups of children arrive at the farms ready to get stuck in – getting their hands dirty, learning new skills and discovering where their food comes from. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn through doing, with every day bringing a new challenge and a new adventure.

But life on a working farm doesn’t stop when the heavens open. For many of the children who arrive, waterproof clothing can be poor quality or simply not up to the job. Once clothes become wet and cold, it can be difficult to concentrate, enjoy an activity or feel confident heading back outside. And when there’s so much to discover, the last thing anyone wants is to miss out because of the weather. Our waterproofs help make sure that doesn’t happen. With sturdy, reliable kit to keep them warm and dry, children can get stuck into farm life whatever the forecast. They can squelch through muddy fields, work in the vegetable patch and get involved in all the wonderfully messy jobs that make a farm such an exciting place to learn.

There are apples to grind, composters to man, vegetables to plant and charcoal to make. There are animals to care for, weather to experience and plenty of mud to discover along the way. These are the sorts of hands-on experiences that children remember long after they’ve returned home. And because the waterproofs are made to withstand plenty of adventures, they can be worn by children visiting the farms throughout the year – ready for everything from autumn rain and winter winds to those classic British summer downpours.

We’re delighted to play a small part in helping Farms for City Children give more children the freedom to learn outdoors, get stuck in and discover the joy of doing things for themselves. Because sometimes the best lessons don’t happen in a classroom. Sometimes they happen with muddy boots, cold hands, a wheelbarrow full of compost – and a very good waterproof jacket.

We’re proud to support Farms for City Children and their brilliant belief in ‘learning through doing’, helping children make the most of every farm adventure, whatever the weather.
