10 Essentials To Pack For A School Trip

Packing for school trips is always a challenge! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our handy packing list to make sure your children remember their school trip essentials.

The items to pack will depend on the destination, weather and activities your children will be involved in. We’ve created our packing list with a summer school trip in mind, but we’re sure it will also be useful for a trip in the spring, autumn or early winter. Let's get packing!

1) Backpack & water bottle

Get ready for a school trip with a lightweight and comfortable backpack. Double-check if the straps are fully adjustable for a better fit and extra comfort. Don’t forget about a reusable water bottle to keep your children hydrated on-the-go.

2) Waterproofs

Make sure your children stay warm and dry whatever the weather a breathable, waterproof jacket and a pair of drizzle-defeating trousers can be a lifesaver! Even the sunniest day can end up with rain – ahh, the joys of British weather!

3) Comfortable shoes

A pair of comfortable trainers or walking shoes is necessary to keep away blisters, as your children are almost definitely going to be doing a lot of walking!

4) Wellies

Nothing beats wellies when it comes to practical packing. Obviously, they protect against big wet puddles and muddy yomps, but they also have the benefit of no laces or Velcro so can be easily slipped on and off feet.

5) Sunscreen

A high factor sun lotion is essential, especially in the summer. You can’t guarantee they will pop some sunscreen on before taking part in the outdoor activities but at least if you pack it they have the choice!

6) Sun hat & sunglasses

Pack a protective sun hat and pair of fun sunglasses for extra sun protection because you never know what British summer might deliver.

7) Suitable clothing

Layers, layers and more layers – don’t let the weather surprise them! A t-shirt, a long-sleeved top, a light jumper and a waterproof jacket are key to keeping your children comfortable while they ramble in the great outdoors. Layers are handy as they can be added or removed depending on the temperature.

8) Toiletries

A small and practical washbag including soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste should be enough – avoid packing big and heavy bottles so that your child doesn’t have to carry unnecessary baggage.

9) Healthy snacks

Healthy snacks such as nuts, fruit and oat bars are a perfect alternative to crisps and cookies.

10) Something to keep them busy

A book, a magazine, a notepad and pencils or a good old colouring book will make a long (and boring) coach or train trip easier and will keep your children occupied.
