We have rounded up five Valentine's Day crafts that your children will have lots of fun making.

Read on to discover how to ‘rock your valentine’, ‘grow your love’ or make a heart-shaped bird feeder with our Valentine's Day craft ideas.

1) Rock Valentines

These glittery Valentine's Day rocks are very easy to make and involve three of every child’s favourite craft materials: rocks, glue, and glitter.

 WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Rocks
• Glue
• Glitter (even better if it is biodegradable)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Gather small, smooth rocks, wash and dry them (try spreading them out on a baking tray and place in the oven for a few minutes to dry - however if you gather your rocks from a wet area such as a stream, do NOT put them in the oven as the moisture may cause them to explode).
2. Squeeze a small amount of white glue into a dish.
3. Paint a heart on your rock with the glue - use a fine paintbrush to get a sharp edge.
4. Sprinkle glitter on top of the wet glue.
5. Shake off the excess glitter, and leave to dry for about 30mins to 1 hour in a warm, dry place.
6. Repeat!

2) Handprint Valentines card

Children will love making these super cute bear handprint Valentine's cards by @simplycraftykids, and they make a lovely keepsake to remember how little their hands were.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• White/pink card
• Brown/white paint
• Googly eyes
• Glue
• Black felt tip pen

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Paint your child's hand brown and press onto white card.
2. Paint on the ears using your fingertip.
3. When the bear is dry, mix some brown and white paint to create a beige colour, and paint a beige mouth using your fingertip.
4. When dry, draw on the mouth details, using a black felt tip pen.
5. Cut out small hearts for the bears cheeks from the pink card (or use a small heart shaped craft punch) and glue these onto the bear.
6. Add your googly eyes.
7. Cut out the bear, and glue onto pink card.
8. Add your Valentine's message with a black felt tip pen.

3) Seed Paper Valentines

For those with green fingers then Seed Paper Valentines is the craft activity for you. This is the DIY Valentine that keeps on giving. It’s a homemade paper heart filled with seeds. In the spring, your Valentine plant the paper heart and gets to watch the wildflowers grow.

 WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• 1 cup of ripped-up newspaper + red/pink paper
• 2 cups of water
• Wildflower seeds
• 3 heart-shaped mini cookie cutters or silicone moulds
• 2 large bowls
• Blender

INSTRUCTIONS

Prep Your Paper

1. Tear the newspaper or junk mail into small pieces. This is the perfect task for tiny hands that need something to do! Be sure to throw in a few small pieces of red or pink paper.
2. In a blender, blend the water and paper until it’s chunky. It should look like oatmeal.
3. Dump the mixture into a bowl.
4. Take handfuls of the pulp and squeeze out most of the water. The pulp should now be moist, but not sopping wet.
5. Put your squeezed-out pulp into a clean bowl.

Make Your Seed Paper

1. Sprinkle your pulp with wildflower seeds and gently mix with your fingers.
2. Divide your pulp into three equal parts.
3. Mash each part into the mini cookie cutters or silicone molds.
4. You can pat the tops dry with a cloth to get rid of excess moisture.
5. After 24 hours, pop the paper hearts out of the tins and place them on a cookie rack for another 24 hours to finish drying.
6. Attach these hearts to homemade cards or simply wrap them in wax paper and give away as Valentines.

Be sure your Valentine knows to plant the heart in the spring, water it well and watch a sweet patch of wildflowers come to life!

4) Heart shaped potato prints

This super easy craft is perfect for children to make Valentine's cards for all their friends. All you need is some card, paint, and potatoes.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Brown card (or any colour you would like)
• Red/light pink/dark pink/white paint
• Potatoes (baking potatoes, maris pipers and king edwards all work well)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut a heart shape into your potato, or use a small heart shaped cookie cutter to create the outline, then cut around it with a sharp knife.
2. Let your little one start stamping on the paper!
3. Leave to dry.

5) Heart-shaped bird feeder

Create a lovely Valentine's Day bird feeder for all the lovely birds to dine on.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• 2 cups birdseed
• 1/2 cup lard or peanut butter
• Mixing bowl
• A piece of string for the hanger
• Heart-shaped cookie cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Mix your peanut butter/lard and bird seeds together in a large mixing bowl.
2. Transfer the seeds into the cookie cutters to the half way point.
3. Place a piece of string in birdseed to be able to hang your bird feeders later on.
4. Put your birdseed in the freezer for an hour so you can unmould your bird feeders easily.
5. Unmould your bird feeders and hang them from a tree - keep the remaining bird seed mixture in the fridge until you are ready to hang them.
