1) Blackpool Sands, Devon

Looking for the perfect family day out? Head to Devon and enjoy a sunny day on one of the loveliest beaches in the UK. Blackpool Sands is a family-friendly, safe beach with exceptionally clean water. Your little ones will have lots of space to run free and build sand castles (there are large sandpits available). You can also try family kayaking or paddle boards and spend a wonderful and active day outdoors. There’s also a café, a shop and the beautiful Blackpool Gardens just behind the beach - check the individual websites for opening information.

2) Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland

Enjoy a walk along this pristine, sandy beach with views of Bamburgh Castle which can be accessed for true explorers. For a real seaside adventure, take a trip to the nearby Farne Islands by boat between March and October and look out for puffins, seals and even dolphins if you're very lucky.

3) West Wittering beach, West Sussex

West Wittering beach is a lovely sandy beach, perfect for a relaxing family day out, surrounded by wildlife and different plant species. There are lifeguards on site, so you and your gang will be in safe hands all day long. Don’t worry if you forget your bucket and spade – you can buy all the summer essentials in the beach shop. There’s also a beach café if you get hungry or need a little pick-me-up but check local information before you travel.

4) Polzeath Beach, Cornwall

Known for it's surfing, Polzeath Beach is a great place to come for a family day out. Be sure to time your visit well by looking at the tide times as at low tide, the sand extends around half a mile in both directions where as when the tide comes in there's hardly any beach at all. Don't forget wellies for exploring the rock pools.
