First Family Festival - Top Tips

First Family Festival - Top Tips

So, you're contemplating going to your first ever family festival? Whether you're raring to go with your wellies at the ready, or feeling somewhat nervous about the whole shebang, our friends at Just So Festival have put together this handy guide for family festival first-timers.

Read on for what to look for and what to expect in a family festival.

1) A bit of something for everyone

We'd recommend choosing a festival where the whole family can be immersed in the experience together. Check out festival programmes, and have a look for a line-up with something for everybody – the ideal family festival will be one where your whole team, from babies to grandparents, will want to get involved.

2) Chill zones

We all know that feeling when you've partied too hard and need to get away from it all. Make sure the festival you're heading to has quiet areas where you can catch your breath amongst the music and excitement, whether that's quiet family camping spots or dedicated chill-out places in the main festival site.

3) Seriously scrummy food

Even if you're planning on bringing a camping stove and making your own meals, we can guarantee you'll end up splashing out on a festival meal at least once or twice. Festival food can be an absolute treat if they get it right, so check out the food (and drink!) offerings.

4) Good loos and showers

We were all thinking it. The holy grail of family festivals is finding an acceptably clean loo to hold your squirming child over. Although all festivals try their very best to keep their facilities in tip top condition, from our experience, family-focused events are more likely to actually manage it.

What to expect…

1) The M word

We hate to say, it but we'd be deceiving you if you didn't tell you to expect at least a little bit of glorious mud! As fun as diving into puddles may be, no one likes cold feet or soggy trousers – so kit up your little ones in waterproof puddle suits and wellies. Our other festival must-pack is a waterproof picnic blanket so you can park up anywhere for a (probably much-needed!) sit down.

2) A mixed bag of weather

Rain one minute and a heat wave the next? We've all experienced unpredictable British summers... so without wishing to sound like Duke of Edinburgh instructors, pack for all possible weather conditions, and don't forget sun hats and sun cream as well as wet weather gear.

3) An absolutely brilliant time

There will be highs. There will be lows. But we can guarantee that after your first festival as a family, you'll have big smiles on your faces and memories to last a lifetime! Just So Festival takes place on 16/17/18 August 2024 at the Rode Hall Estate in Cheshire. Just So is an imaginative outdoor adventure for children and their families. With a love of stories and childhood escapades at its heart, Just So invites families to step out of their day to day lives and into a wonderland of world class literature, arts, theatre, dance, music, comedy and creative pursuits together. Just So takes audiences (from bumps to great grandparents) on a unique expedition of mischief and mayhem to lands full of magical midnight feasts, curious creatures, hidden retreats, top notch food, drink and boutique camping options and breath-taking beauty.
