The Pigeon Pair and Me On Wonderful Winter Kit
Meet the Pigeons! Before their trip to Austria in April, The Pigeon Pair and Me were keen to test out some of our superb children's ski wear in their local green space. As well as providing perfect performance for snowy adventures, our jackets are ideal for the school run and outdoor activities, made to last seasons after season. "In April, we’ll be heading to Saalfelden Leogang in Austria for a family ski trip. Shopping for the children’s skiwear posed a dilemma. We needed to make sure the clothes were warm, waterproof and durable. Quality was crucial. But the children grow so quickly they’re likely to just get one season’s wear out of a jacket. Muddy Puddles, the children’s outdoor wear specialists, have thought of this and designed ski jackets that can double up as winter coats. I was drawn to Muddy Puddles after reading about them on social media. They have an ethos that gels with me: their Muddy Academies support year-round outdoor learning, and they work with charity partners to give inner city and refugee children the warm kit they need to face harse winters. So I was pleased when they invited us to try out the Camo Snow Flurry Ski Jacket with Blizzard Salopettes, seen on my son and the Snowstorm Ski Jacket with Snow Flurry Salopettes that my daughter’s wearing. Off to the local park we trooped, looking to the skies to see if there was any sign of snow... This is Britain. Sadly, none fell. This was a shame, as both pairs of salopettes are well- equipped to withstand blizzard conditions, with snow gaiters and zips to make it easier to put on ski boots, and elasticated waists to make sure they’re the right fit. The blizzard salopettes come with detachable braces, reinforced knees, and are designed for little adventurers who want to try out some new tricks. But if snow doesn’t materialise, both pairs can be used as waterproof trousers. They’re breathable, but impressively waterproof (withstanding up to 5,000 mm of water – anything over 1,000 mm is considered fully waterproof). The jackets are just as waterproof, with thermal protection and adjustable wrists to stop the snow getting in. They have detachable snow gaiters attached by poppers to the fleecy lining, so they can easily double up as school-run coats on nippy mornings. Both coats come with ski pass holders, and either a detachable hood (the snow flurry) or a hood that can be held back by a velcro strap (the snowstorm). My son liked his cool camouflage look, and the coat’s reflective seams would make him easier to spot on the slopes. There will certainly be no missing our little Gwen, in her bright triangles. So, despite the lack of any white stuff, we’re pretty content with the Muddy Puddles gear, to arm the youngsters against the British winter until we hit the slopes in April."
