Support the Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code!

With the ever changeable nature of British weather, it’s best to be prepared. You can never be too careful in England, and with snow last week it’s always best to be kitted out with adequate ski kit. However, just one week later we are now looking at higher and hotter temperatures as we move into the second weekend of May.  As we all know, kids love to explore the outdoors and take a trip into nature, but with weather on the move, it’s always best to keep an eye on them - whatever the weather. We certainly don’t have any negative attitudes to wet and cold weather, however protecting children when temperatures rise is also extremely important.  The folks at Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund recently launched a code which looks to inspire and encourage anyone working with primary school children (6-12 years old) to learn the importance of sun protection. The codes aim is to:
  • Help understand why sun protection is important – even in the UK.
  • Develop an effective sun protection policy, tailored for sport/activity and resources.
  • Provide ideas to help implement sun protection throughout the summer.
  • Offer resources to help communicate and raise awareness to others.
  • Provide accreditation
Did you know that on average, children get 3 times more exposure to the sun than adults? You can even sunburn on a cloudy day…
