Top water safety tips for Canal & River Explorers

Canal & Rivers Trust Explorers share their top tips for staying safe by the waters edge this winter. See their guides & find out more about their free water safety assemblies below.

Stay Away From the Edge! January is a popular month for the welly boot, which is a good job because they were needed more than ever last month. With storms Eva, Frank and Desmond tearing across the country, flooding has caused widespread damage to thousands of homes – including those on the water. It only takes 30cm of water to move a car. The force of water is staggering, and that’s why it’s important for little ones to learn the importance of water safety so that our wonderful waterways can be enjoyed safely. From January through to the end of March, Canal and River Explorers will be running a ‘Winter Water Safety Campaign’, offering fun and free water safety assemblies to primary schools. To find out more and book an assembly, email explorers@canalrivertrust.org.uk. There’s always calm after the storm, and our waterways continue to be a haven of tranquility for people and nature, despite the floods. So why not blow away the cobwebs this January and visit your local canal or river?
